Owning a brt is a lifelong commitment on both your and your brts part. They will give you undivided attention, undemanding love and unbelievable devotion. They will pour their heart and soul into your safety and protection and ask only that you keep them close to you always. They are also addictive - you can never own just one!!

| Flea got a group 1 and a group 2! |
| Posted by: Helene at Wed Mar 10, 2010 8:25 am |
This past weekend at an IABCA show Flea and Patty participated for both days. The first day BRTs were being judged early and even though Patty missed the ring time the judge went ahead and critiqued Flea giving him a V-1 rating. The second judge on Sat also gave Flea a V-1 rating but then gave the breed to another dog saying Flea was groomed and that was against the standard as set forth by the AKC. This is an judge APPROVED by the AKC to JUDGE brts - and yet he apparently cant be bothered to READ the entire standard. Here is the excerpt regarding coat.
"Coat
The coat is a double coat. The natural untrimmed coat length varies from 1½″ to 6″. While the outer guard hair is coarser than the softer undercoat, it is not wiry or curly. The body coat has a slight to moderate wave. The furnishings on the head form a fall over the eyes and a moustache and beard on the muzzle. The legs are covered and protected by long, dense coat. Trimming of the natural coat is needed for suitable shape and upkeep.
For presentation in the show ring, the Black Russian Terrier should be trimmed so that the dog’s outline is clearly defined. The trimmed length of coat and leg furnishings may vary from 0.2″ to 6″ depending upon the location on the body. The fall and muzzle furnishings may be longer than 6″. In no case should grooming be given more weight than structure, movement and balance when evaluating the Black Russian Terrier."
The second day Flea took the breed both days and got a group 1 and group 2 and also qualified for both his International and his National Championships. Hooray!! |
